First, this post is purely for entertainment, and does not represent the beliefs of Buzz’s Towing even though it’s posted on our site. Now that that’s out of the way, Could a Tow Truck driver survive a zombie outbreak? With all of the tools that tow truck drivers carry, I would have to say it’s possible.

In the zombie survival guide by Max Brooks he says, “The best weapon is one that doesn’t need to be re-loaded.” Almost every tow truck carries J-hooks which could be very effective in fighting hordes of the undead. Keep in mind that this is purely for entertainment. Now, a J-hook is attached to a chain, and used to secure the vehicle. These are most commonly found on flatbed tow trucks. A tow truck driver could swing this over his head creating distance between him and the rising dead, or be used in close combat. A J-hook could be extremely effective and would have to be my number one choice in tow truck driver survival tools.

Most tow trucks on the road today carry hammers, screw drivers, wrenches, and other hand tools. These are all great close combat tools, but I’m not looking to hug a zombie. In masses the undead would take serious athletic ability to conquer with blunt objects like hand tools, and while I know a few that could handle this, most of the tow truck drivers I’ve seen aren’t athletic. So, how would the non-athletic survive?

Survival in any situation comes down to two things:

1. Willingness to survive
2. Ingenuity

If you don’t contain these to attributes, I really don’t think you’ll stand a chance. You have to want to survive, and deep down contain that drive to stay alive. The world would become a very different landscape that I’m sure many of the world is not prepared for. Are you prepared to want to live, and to want to survive for a greater cause? How much drive to you have? Second, could you find shelter, food, safety, and warmth in the aftermath. Most people know how to make cookies, but making fire without matches is a different story.

So, could a tow truck driver survive a zombie outbreak? I think it would depend on the person. They carry some tools on their trucks that would make great weapons for fighting the undead, and could cause havok on hordes of zombies…

If your vehicle was illegally towed, it wasn’t us…

A lot of the rules and regulations are enforced at a state, city, or county level. We are not lawyers, but we are in the towing industry. This is advice on what to do if you believe your car was illegally towed.

Here’s some tips if your vehicle was illegally towed:

1. If your vehicle was illegally towed don’t try and play hero! If your vehicle was illegally towed, you are the victim. As these circumstances may really piss you off, aggression will only make matters worse. Try and solve the dispute without violence, if you must get the local authorities involved. They aren’t lawyers either, but can help keep the peace.
2. Call the local authorities if your car was illegally towed. They will be able to tell you if your car has been towed, not stolen. They will also be able to give you the towing companies contact information. Once again don’t expect them to do much. You may have better luck with calling a local news company. Being pressured with the bad PR may be enough for them to release your vehicle.
3. If your car has been illegally towed by a towing predator, you may want to contact your states attorney generals office. They are heavily involved in scams by local businesses. They have been involved in the locksmith scams, and this could very well catch their attention. This may also help if the towing company has been reported to the attorney generals office numerous times.
4. Make them show proof. The predatory towing company should take pictures of the illegally parked vehicle. If the vehicle is illegally parked in a apartment complex or parking lot, the towing company must have a signed document stating it is ok to tow your vehicle. Make sure that the towing company followed all of rules and regulations. The document needs to be signed by an authority around the property. Example: A towing company can’t tow vehicles they’re not authorized to. If your H.O.A. wants your Chevy Cavalier moved from the street, they have the authority to. Now, the towing company can’t call for back up, and tow all the other vehicles parked on the street.

Predatory towing is the real deal these days. These companies don’t care who you are, they want your money, or you car. One safety belts are used correctly, that includes the lap and shoulder belt, it can reduce the risk of fatal injury to front seat passengers by 45%. Using your seatbelt can also significantly reduce the risk of being thrown from the vehicle in a rollover accident.
4. Safe Driving tip number four :Before you take out on the open road take time to map out your route. In this day and age I wouldn’t just punch it into your GPS and hit the road. Beware of traffic and construction. Another thing to take into consideration would be weather advisories along your route, so you can plan alternate routes if these conditions affect your route.
5. Safe Driving tip number five : Do whatever it takes to reduce driver distraction. Traffic, construction, and careless drivers are distractions that are beyond your control. Nevertheless you can dramatically reduce the risk traffic accidents by decreasing the distractions inside of your car. If you happen to be driving at night on your road trip, to reduce glare from lights inside the car, your passengers may want to consider a product such as a book light that they will be reading. Try a new steering wheel controls to change radio stations or CDs. Don’t text and drive. If you will be talking on your cell phone while you are driving, it would probably be a good idea to use a Bluetooth device. There’s much more that you can do to stop driver distractions that we didn’t cover here. Just take a second to consider there is anything that may take the drivers eyes off of the road for just a second, and that could be considered a distraction.

Cold weather driving can be stressful

on a lot of the older vehicles on the road that don’t have the technology that new cars contain. Ice snow, and other extreme winter weather can cause the roads to become hazardous due to ice and snow.

As fall will soon come to a close, and the Colorado ski resorts start pumping out snow, have your mechanic check some of the following on your vehicle.

This will help you prepare for cold weather driving!

Have your mechanic check the heating system. Driving in extreme weather conditions can be dangerous, and especially if your cold. Cold joints and muscles can slow reaction time as muscles tighten. Windows can become frozen, and without your vehicles heating system working properly this can become extremely dangerous.

Check your battery to make sure that your battery is working properly. If you battery has corrosion on the terminals this can be the cause of a bad cell. As the battery heats up, gasses excape and cause the terminals to corrode. Most of the hydrogen gas does not escape from under the hood, and has time to corrode the terminals. You need all of the cells to work properly as starting your vehicle in cold weather conditions is a very heavy drain on the battery. You can clean the battery teminals with water and baking soda, coke, or a battery terminal solution from and autoparts store. We would suggest that you just replace the battery, because a leak can cause a week cell in the battery.

Make sure that your wind shield wipers are working properly, and that your vehicles windshield washer fluid resorvior is full of regular washer fluid, or you can get a mixture that contains de-icer. Your windshield wipers will be brushing away a lot of snow, water, and ice, so it’s important to check to make sure they’re working properly. It would be a good idea to keep an emergency bottle of windshield wiper fluid in your car, you may be using it a lot to keep you windshield clean when driving on wet roads.

Your coolant system should be flushed every two years. Antifreeze can stop you vehicles engine from freezing in weather of about 30 to 40 degrees below zero.

Check with a local tire shop that you trust to make sure your winter radials have enough tred left on your tires to make it through the winter season. While all season radials are a good choice, we would suggest getting a pair of winter tires for areas of the United States that see a large amount of snow fall. All season radial tires will not give you the same performance that a good set of winter tires would in ice and snow conditions. Winter tires tend to have a more blocked edge, and that’s where they get their traction.

Remember to fully clean your vehicles windows of all snow and ice before starting your trip. There are also certain items to keep in your vehicle during the winter. Remember Drive the speed limit and drive safe!

The next thing you need is a cold weather driving emergency kit.

Items to have in your winter driving emergency kit:

Snow Scraper. We suggest having a snow scraper with a snow brush on the end. This will allow you to scrape off the ice and also allow you to brush off the snow with minimum effort.

Having some De-icer in your vehicle will allow you to spread it on the road in the event you become stuck.

Blankets are a necessity when driving in winter conditions. In the event that you become stuck or stranded, having warm blankets could mean life or death.

A small first aid kit for accidents.

Jumper or Booster Cables could come in handy if your battery doesn’t have enough of a charge to start your vehicle. Jumper Cables can also allow you to help someone else out in the event they don’t have Booster Cables.

A small tool kit with a flashlight is extremely handy to have in the event of a break down.

Extra water is a must. Your body can survive for days, weeks, and even months without food, but it won’t last long without being hydrated. In the event you become stranded for a long period, you can pull a Bear Grylls and drink your own urine. Now, we are not suggesting that you do this, but in extreme situations, it can mean life or death. Be carefull in this cold weather driving season.

Scammers are in every industry, it’s just a fact we must live with. As we make tools to make it harder for them we just engineer smarter scammers. Towing scammers have no intention to tow your vehicle, they just want the money to release your car. I can almost guarantee that if you come out to find your car or truck in the process of being towed, and it has every right to be there, threaten to contact P.U.C. and any tow truck driver that’s ran into these guys will let you go. Report them anyway, you’ll be saving a neighbor.

The public utilities commission for the state of Colorado doesn’t mess around. I’ve heard stories about how these guys are worse than the I.R.S.

Most of us depend on our cars every day, and we may park in one parking lot and walk through another to go to a store because there was no parking. Do your research to make sure that all guidelines were followed by the towing company if your car was towed. A little note “All illegally parked cars must have a waiver signed by the property manager, or owner. Otherwise your car may have been illegally towed.”
